Taking Care of Yourself
Self-care is extremely important but often something that is overlooked. Here are a few tips on how to take care of YOURSELF every day.
It is also essential to know who and where to turn to for help. Check and see if your workplace offers professional support or if they have a mental health plan.
1. Be Open and Honest.
Talk with your teammates, a friend, a family member or a professional about how your work or the pandemic is affecting you, professionally and personally. Share your thoughts or any solutions you use to help take care of yourself, mentally and physically, and seek out a professional to speak to, if needed.
2. Take Care of Your Physical Health.
It can be hard to care for your physical health with busy work and personal schedules. Try to make time for exercise, eat healthily and be sure to get enough sleep. Try to take care of yourself daily and on your breaks at work.
3. Take a Break from the News.
Staying informed is important, but it is easy to get bogged down with negative news, or constant COVID-19 updates. Try and find a balance between daily updates and taking a break from the news.
4. Appreciate Yourself and the Work You are Doing.
Appreciate yourself and the work that you are doing. Your workload may have increased and you may sometimes feel bogged down by all that needs to be done, but remember that you are vital and play a critical role in your patients' lives.
